Anti-racism activists stirred up controversy by slaughtering a sheep on Clifton 4th beach for the purpose of ridding the beach of "racist spirits".

Rhodes Must Fall activist Chumani Maxwele, led the protest as hundreds of people gathered at the popular beach to protest a racist incident in which black beach goers were removed from the beach by PPA Security, a private security contractor, hired by residents to control access to the beach. The security has no contractual relationship with the City of Cape Town, who legally controls access to all public spaces and beaches in the City.

There was was also a racially charged incident between a white animal-rights activist and black protesters.
