Endangered green sea turtle found dead on beach in Thailand

This is the heartbreaking moment locals found a dead green sea turtle lying on the beach.

Coastal residents discovered the 132lbs sea turtle washed up on the Jomtien Beach in front of a resort in Chonburi, eastern Thailand on August 15.

They immediately called the local marine center to for help in handling the lifeless marine creature.

Environmental officials said estimated the turtle to be around 15-years-old, but they will have to examine its body to ascertain the cause of death.

Green sea turtles, like other sea turtles, migrate long distances between their feeding grounds and hatching beaches.

They are classed as 'endangered' on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species .
