Flooding in Cambodia has killed at least 11 people since the beginning of the month.

Footage filmed on Sunday (October 11) shows residents wading through thigh-deep water in Chamkarmon, Phnom Penh.

In some areas where the floodwater only reached ankle-deep, motorists and residents were seen wading through floods while heavy rain pounded them.

Officials said that at least 10 people had drowned since the start of the month when heavy rain began. Another person had been struck by lightning.

The National Committee for Disaster Management spokesman Khun Sokha said the seasonal rains were made worse by a tropical storm.

The Department of Public Works and Transportation said that Battambang and Pursat in the country's northwest were two worst-hit provinces.

Chea Sambath, Governor of Rukha Kiri district in Battambang province, said that more than 1,500 families and 3,000 hectares of rice fields had been affected.

Prime Minister Hun Sen mobilised local authorities and rescue teams to aid those affected.

Cambodia and neighbouring Thailand have both suffered severe flooding in recent days as the region reaches the peak of its annual rainy season.
