This is the heartwarming moment a kitten was rescued after being stuck in an office ceiling for five days.

Civil servant Ratchawaree Charoenwai, 38, called the emergency services after hearing the moggie cry in Saraburi province, central Thailand on November 18.

The animal lover said she had been hearing strange noises for five days but was unsure if it was a cat until it grew louder when it wandered right on top of her cubicle.

She said: ''I thought its mother would come and rescue it but after several days her moan was still ongoing so I decided to contact the rescue team worrying that the kitten might be starving.''

The rescuers arrived at the provincial public relations office and began searching for the cat in the ceiling.

When they were sure about its location, they used a knife to cut a rectangular opening through the wooden tiles.

A kind rescuer then entered the opening to look for the cat, which was stuck behind the steel drain pipes above.

The team tried to pull the feline from between the pipes using a rope but the starving kitten kept on evading it out of fear.

The rescue team decided to go round the building corner and hammer the wall where they predicted the kitten to be and they found the it crying from the other side of the hole.

The rescuers reached for the cat and pulled it out before handing it over to the employee.

Ratchawaree said she would take the kitten home and take care of it with other cats she adopted.

She said: “I am a cat lover myself and already have several adopted cats in my house from the animal shelter.

“I feel like I have grown familiar with this poor kitten after I listened to its suffering for days, so from now on, I will take care of it.”
