This is the heartwarming moment a newborn kitten that fell into a narrow wall gap was rescued by villagers in Thailand.

The male kitten had rolled down the sloped roof and fell into the cramped space next to a house fence in Chonburi province.

Homeowner Suraphol Chanphen, 44, heard its persistent cries and called animal rescue volunteers for help when he saw the moggie out of reach.

The rescuers arrived and used pole snares to pull the baby animal - still unable to open its eyes - to safety. The kitten was reunited with its mum and siblings.

Suraphol said: 'I have decided to adopt the cats. I feel sorry for them. They might not survive without someone to look after them.'
