Detectives investigate the scene where a police officer was shot in California's Hemet.

Footage filmed on November 23 shows an area of a Wendy's restaurant car park cordoned off as the scene is inspected.

According to reports, an officer was shot by a suspect in a silver Acura sedan and they have now been taken into custody. The condition of the officer is unknown.

(UPDATED 11/12/2020) From Hemet PD press release - On 11/23/20 at about 4:05 am, Hemet Police Officers responded to the 3400 block of W Florida Avenue following a report of someone shooting a gun in the area. Two officers arrived on-scene; one began checking the area for evidence of a shooting while the other officer spoke with the person who had made the call to police. At about 4:19 am, the officer was speaking to the reporting party (r/p) in a parking lot near a fast food restaurant when the r/p said something to the effect of, “That looks like him.” and pointed to a vehicle slowly traveling through the same parking lot. At that time, the suspect fired at the officer from his vehicle. The officer, who did not return fire at the fleeing vehicle, was hit one time in the leg. The vehicle then continued through the parking lot and exited onto Florida Avenue as other officers converged on it. The suspect, later ID’ed as 20 year old Robert Moran of Hemet, was taken into custody without incident on Florida Avenue adjacent to the parking lot where the shootings had taken place. A handgun was located on the front passenger seat of Moran’s vehicle. He was alone in the car. No officers fired their weapons during this incident. The officer, who has not yet been identified, was transported to a Riverside County hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his knee. He is alert and in good spirits. He has been with the Hemet Police Department for 9 months and is assigned to patrol.
