A school in the Riau province in northern Indonesia was left completely destroyed after a gas pipeline running underneath the building deep in the ground burst and sent huge amounts of pressure upwards.

Footage from February 6 shows the building destroyed, with the roof completely caved in as workers removed furniture from inside.

Additional footage shows the epicentre of the blast, which was still spewing debris and residual mud as underground pressure continued to burst upwards.

Okta Firana Sari, a school worker the witness said, the incident began after the management of Al-Ihsan Islamic Boarding School employed well diggers to find water sources in their grounds.

"When excavators reached around 120 meters on Thursday (February 4) gas burst out of the well to a height of 15 meters," Sari said.
