This is the heartwarming moment a hapless pet cat was rescued from a 65ft-deep well after being trapped overnight.

The five-months-old feline named Khao Phod was found to have gone missing by owner Chatcha Chaodong during dinner in Sukhothai province, Thailand on March 24.

Chatcha thought the moggie was only playing outside but when it failed to return home the next morning, she started worrying.

The cat lover searched for the cat around their house until she found it crying from under an abandoned well in their neighbourhood.

She took out an old basket and attached a rope to its handle which was let down the dark and wet hole with the help of neighbours hoping that the cat would jump on it.

After almost half an hour, the cat was lured inside the basket and the pet owner was able to pull her beloved Khao Phod out of the hole.

Chatcha said: ‘Luckily there were no snakes below. Khao Pod was safe now. I will make sure this doesn’t happen again and put a cover on the well.’

The wet and muddied cat was cleaned before being checked for injuries and fed when they found it was healthy.
