A Thai teacher creates hyper-realistic cakes which are actually made from rice and stir-fried food.

Teacher Vipada Vechaprasit made the savoury cakes to earn extra money when she was forced to stay at home when schools closed due to the pandemic in Nakhon Sawan province, Thailand.

Her cakes have three layers with a steamed rice base topped with meat and stir-fried Asian dishes. The meat includes pork, beef, chicken, or seafood depending on the order.

The unique dish is customisable so buyers can specify how much chilli they wanted on the cake or choose the toppings that they want, which has made them even more popular.

Vipada said she had some baking knowledge but the stir-fry recipe was taught to her by her mother so every dish that she makes has added sentimental meaning for her.

She said: ‘My sick mother taught me the recipes so they are all quite special to me. One of the main ingredients that give the dishes their unique flavour is basil. I use the money from selling cakes to buy medicines for my mother.’

Vipada’s cakes are available to order using her online shop Auan Pen Moo.
