CCTV Footage Shows 5.9 Magnitude Earthquake Occurs in Indonesia

A CCTV footage shows people running out of a mini market during an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 in Ampana, Tojo Unauna Regency, Central Sulawesi Province, Indonesia, Monday 25 July 2021.

In the footage, the goods sold in the mini market are seen falling to the floor.

On the other hand, panicked people scattered in front of the mini market.

Meanwhile, in another video recording, employees at a government office in Ampana also rushed out of the building in fear during the earthquake.

Head of the BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Center Bambang Setiyo Prayitno said this earthquake occurred at 10.52 WIB and was centered at coordinates 0.74° South Latitude; 121.88° East Longitude, or precisely located in the sea at a distance of 55 kilometers to the northeast of Tojo Unauna Regency, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Although the shaking of this earthquake was so strong, it did not cause a tsunami.

"This earthquake is shallow so it doesn't cause a tsunami," said Bambang.

This earthquake was felt as far as Palu City, Poso City, and Parigi Moutong City.
