This is the moment torrents of muddy water flowed from the hillsides during the monsoon season in the Philippines.

Heavy downpours battered the mountainous region of Tuba town, Benguet province before mudslide gushed down to villages on August 10.

As the rain made its way down the slopes, parts of the mountain eroded creating mudslides that interrupted roads and markets.

No one was reported hurt but local rescue officials had to work all day on clearing operations and keep the roads safe for passing vehicles.

Driver Gerald Beninsig said: ‘It was scary. We live nearby and some of the dirty water entered my house. It seemed like everything was just going to collapse because of the heavy rain.’

Other areas in the region have also recorded landslides and rockslides blocking the road and causing massive traffic jams for motorists during the week-long extreme weather.

The Philippines and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
