Beautiful ship sculpture made from woven rattan in Indonesia

A group of artists in West Sumatra created a unique statue of a ship and crew made out of rattan.

The miniature ship, filmed on October 1, includes a crew and captain and is made from Kau rattan. The piece is located in front of the West Sumatra Cultural Office, in the city of Padang, Indonesia.

This miniature ship in an estimated five metres long and three metres wide, with a four-metre-tall mast held together using rattan wood with nails tied together with ropes from rattan rods.

Mamud, one of the artists, explained: "This miniature is a ship used in ancient times with people where Indonesia is known as a Kapal Pelayar,"

He added: "It took thousands of sticks of rattan and over a month to build."
