This motorist was shocked after an 8-foot-long cobra coiled up in his car engine in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Suhandi, 50, found the snake after his cat began meowing intensely while in the car's garage.

"The snake was crawling under the car when the cat chased it away, then climbed into the car's engine," said officer Fachrozie from West Kotawaringin Fire Department.

Footage from January 23 shows a member of the rescue team carrying the large serpent out into the open.

The cobra was eventually released back into the wild away from the village.

Car owner was shocked after finding a king cobra coiled up inside his car engine while parked in the garage of his house in Indonesia.

The animal rescue team of the West Kotawaringin Fire Department was called to catch the snake.

Officer Rizki D. Fachrozie said the incident began when the informer, Suhandi, 50, and other family members were concerned by his cat meowing intensely in the car garage at his home in Central Kalimantan on Sunday (23 January) morning.

They went to the garage and were shocked to see their cat following a fairly large snake.

"The snake was crawling under the car when the cat chased it away, then climbed into the car's engine," officer Fachrozie said as car owner Suhandi told him.

After spotting the snake's whereabouts, Suhandi started the car engine and took him to the yard, hoping the snake would come out from the engine.

The Kobar animal rescue team who came to the location turned off the car engine, and managed to catch the snake after half an hour.

"This snake is a king cobra 2.5 metres long. It's thought to have come from a bush beside the home,” the officer said.

The officers put the snake in the sack ready to release it back to the wild away from the local village.
