Locals in Cooch Behar, West Bengal, were left panicked after a wild leopard strayed into a residential area on January 27.

Footage shows the animal strolling into a narrow alley and glancing up at crowds that gathered on rooftops.

Officials managed to tranquilise the wild cat and place it inside a cage.

The animal was then taken to Jaldapara National Park.

A leopard strayed out of its natural habitat and entered the residential region in eastern India's West Bengal on January 27.

The incident took place in the Kalabagan region of the Cooch Behar city of the eponymous district.

Visuals feature the leopard walking into a narrow alley and glances at its surroundings as a huge crowd gathers on the rooftops. Meanwhile, the officials attempt to avoid the assembly of people in the vicinity. However, the rescuers encircle the house and use a giant net to capture the big cat. Fortunately, the rescuers manage to tranquillise and rescue the animal before confining it inside a cage.

The forest officials made arrangements to catch the animal in a washroom and even tried to get a location from where they could get a clean shot from a dart gun to tranquillise the animal. Following this, it took around three hours for the team of the state forest department to dart the animal, put it in a cage, and take it away to the Jaldapara National Park.
