This is the terrifying moment a motorcycle rider almost drowned when he was swept away while trying to cross a flooded bridge in the Philippines during Tropical Storm Megi.

The reckless man was seen trying to power his motorbike through the surging torrents of muddy water in Tabuelan municipality in Cebu province on April 12.

While crossing the inundated bridge, the two-wheeler toppled over, swept away by the force of the flood. The driver tried to retrieve it, but he himself was nearly carried away by the strong current.

Panicked onlookers screamed as bystanders rushed to the man's aid. Luckily, he managed to grab onto a rope before he could be dragged under.

Local officials who were helping with relief efforts managed to pull the man to safety but they could not retrieved his bike.

Tropical Storm Megi, locally known as Agaton, made landfall in Guiuan municipality, Eastern Samar at 7:30 am on April 10 with maximum sustained winds of up to 75 kilometres per hour.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said at least 58 have died due to landslides and flooding triggered by the storm. The agency added that more than 34,583 locals have evacuated to some 348 safety centres in different regions.

Megi has also caused agricultural damage worth at least 51 million PHP (around 980,000 USD).

State weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration has lifted all cyclone warnings saying Megi has dissipated on Wednesday, but rain showers are still expected in the country's central provinces.
