A drunk tourist was arrested while walking naked through a red light district in Thailand.

The middle-aged man with a moustache was wearing nothing but a bum bag and a DSLR camera slung over his shoulder in Pattaya in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Shocked locals called the police who rushed the area and spent 20 minutes ushering the wayward holidaymaker into the nearest police station next to the beach.

He was put into the back of a pickup truck and covered with a sheet of polythene used for protecting motorcycles during rain storms.

Officers said the foreigner had no ID or passport on him and was not speaking Englisgh. They could not understand what language he was speaking and communication was made more difficult because he was 'intoxicated and rude'.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Sonthaya Khansub, deputy police chief of Pattaya City Police Station, said: 'The tourist was very intoxicated and naked. He caused a great shock to local people.

'When officers tried to talk to him, he would spit at them. He spent a lot of time walkiing around while we tried to persuade him to go to the station.

'He was tall and looked European but we did not know what language he was speaking so we could not find an interpreter. We put him in a cell, but he was still making a lot of noise.

'When he is sober we will question him about what happened and why he was walking around without any clothes.'

Pattaya is a city on the east coast of Thailand best know for its round-the-clock nightlife and bustling sex industry that has lead to it being called a modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah or Sin City.

It attracts millions of tourists each year as well as Brits who retire there. However, the heady environment and tropical weather often causes holidaymakers to behave innapropriately.
