12 people walked in bundles of three people. At an altitude of more than 4000 meters, one of the tourists fell into the abyss, dragging two more with him. Almost immediately after that, another bunch broke. Four people died instantly, two more later from their injuries.

The remaining group split up: two went down to the hut 900 meters lower, others remained in tents at the same height, one of them, the group guide, had a broken leg.

Rescuers on a helicopter twice failed to reach the tourists: landing on the hill is impossible due to storm winds. The rescue operation was postponed until 5 September.

Klyuchevskaya Sopka is the highest active volcano in Eurasia. Its height is more than 4.8 thousand meters.
