This is the shocking moment a manhole cover exploded due to a build-up of pressure sending debris flying onto parked cars.

CCTV footage shows how the blast flung the heavy metal objects 20ft into the air along the Sukhumvit Road in Pattaya, Thailand, on October 22.

One of the covers struck a pickup truck parked near a fuel station, denting its bonnet.

The driver, Winai Amcharoen, 55, said: 'I drove here to have my truck fixed, but after parking, I heard an explosion. Then I saw the manhole in the sky before it fell in front of me.

'I did not smell any gas after the incident, but I saw white smoke coming from the manhole.'

Officers relocated vehicles away from the area following the incident.

No injuries have been reported.

Authorities are repairing the damage to the manhole cover. They believe that a build-up of gases in the sewer system caused an increase in pressure that blew the lid off.
