Heavy rains are hitting Chennai, India's State of Tamil Nadu, causing severe floods. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert in some parts of the southern state. Since October 31, at least 26 people have died in rain-related incidents.

The city, which woke up to a heavy downpour on November 13, is expected to become wetter and wetter in the following days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more downpours accompanied by thunderstorms.

This footage shows the city being completely inundated by flood water. People leave their homes on foot and dinghies.

The government has set up 5,093 relief camps. 1,149 personnel from the National Disaster Response Force and 899 from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are ready to be deployed.
