A wild python found hanging on top of a street light was rescued in Singapore.

The hapless creature climbed up the 15ft-high electric post and slithered across the Christmas lights but was left stuck in the middle in Choa Chu Kang on January 7.

Park-goers saw the creature coiled around the thin string and struggling not to fall before calling wildlife officers for help.

Footage shows a rescuer using a pole and a leader to reach for the animal. The animal had a tight grip so they eventually had to take down the lights and remove the animal by hand.

Onlooker Nurul Aqilah said: "I was walking towards my block when I saw a group of people looking up at the sky. I wasn't sure what they were looking at so I walked closer. I thought someone's pillow was stuck in the lights since it was brownish in colour but I realised it was a python".

The Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Acres) volunteers had to untangle the 6-foot-long snake from the wire.

Nurul added: "It looked threatened and scared. It was rescued after that without injuries so everything was fine".
