Bungling helicopter pilot blows over stadium roof injuring eight during children's event in Thailand
This is the dramatic moment a bungling helicopter pilot blew over a stadium roof injuring eight during a National Children's Day event in Thailand.
The Thai Navy aircraft had flown low to scatter flowers and treats for children attending the celebration in Tha Chang district, Chanthanaburi province, on January 14.
The festivities quickly turned to chaos when downwash from the chopper flattened several marquee tents and caused a steel and canvas stand roof to collapse.
Authorities said eight people were injured, including five children and three adults.
Nareerat Khumkana, 58, was taken to the Phrapokklao Hospital after suffering a cut on her head and a broken neck, local media reported.
Tha Chang mayor Tawatchai Chantakit said in an afternoon press conference in response to the bungle stunt that the municipality will fully compensate the injured.
Admiral Pokkrong Monthatpalin, Thai Navy spokesperson, said that the navy's commander-in-chief Admiral Choengchai Chomchoengpaet extended his apologies and has ordered the Chanthaburi and Trat Border Defence Command to distribute financial and medical aid to the victims.
