A child was rescued from a collapsed building in northern Syria as a powerful magnitude 7.8 quake struck neighbouring Turkey on February 6.

Footage shows rescuers cleaning the crying boy after he was pulled from under the rubble of a building in northern Syria.

The quake was recorded at a depth of 24.1 kilometres, some 23 kilometres east of Nurdagi in the Gaziantep province of Turkey near Syria's northern border at 1:17 UTC, the United States Geological Survey said.

The agency said the tremors also jolted Cyprus, Jordan, Lebanon, the United Kingdom, Iraq, Georgia, and Armenia.
