Couple rescues lost baby bat attacked by birds in Singapore
This is the heartwarming moment a couple rescued a lost baby bat attacked by birds in Singapore.
French expatriate Amandine Honvault was walking with her boyfriend to a restaurant when they noticed something moving in the grass in Central Singapore on April 2.
The pair discovered it was a little winged mammal twitching on the ground, which appeared to have been bullied by the sparrows around.
Footage shows the ex-pat picking up the creature and cradling it in her lavender jacket. She called the wildlife officers for help who told them to take the bat home.
Amandine said: ‘Because it's still a baby, they advised us to keep it in a container and they will come to pick it up later.'
The couple made the baby bat - barely the size of a golf ball - its own house using recycled takeout containers.
A cup with the restaurant's name on it served as its temporary shelter. Amandine padded it with tissue, hoping to make it more comfortable for the creature.
As bats loved to hang upside down, the couple skewered a barbecue stick across the cup for a makeshift perch.
She added: ‘After much deliberation, we named it Mabo.' The cute name was taken from the restaurant's name Ma Bo Lor Mee.
National parks officer later arrived to collect Mabo and although the couple bonded with the creature, Amandine said they understood that they needed to let it go.
She said: ‘Mabo is a healthy baby. I hope you find your way back home.'
