The video shows the sea lion, playfully called the puppies of the sea, pulling some funny stunts while balancing on top of the photographer’s head.

Sea lions are very social animals. They can dive up to 984 feet and are also remarkable swimmers and can reach a speed of about 20 miles per hour in the water

Photographer Josh Blank, 30, says he will never forget this once-in-a-lifetime experience offshore from the city of La Paz in Mexico.

He captured this footage with a Nikon D500 in an Ikelite underwater housing.

“One sea lion pup in particular was extremely confident, eventually resting on our heads which made for some hilarious selfies," said Josh.

“I spent a total of six hours in the water with them across two days and the action literally never slowed.

“I love how they represent the sea lion pups' demeanours.

"They truly are like puppies of the sea - so full of energy and playfulness.

“I knew I was in for an exciting dive but never in a million years did I think I would be wearing a sea lion as a hat, playing games or capturing my dream images as they lunged directly towards my camera.

“As fun as the encounters were, they were quite expensive in the end as I had to replace quite a lot of equipment. The sea lions playfully chewed my wetsuit, fins and even my camera equipment.

“Despite this, I would do it all again in a heartbeat.”
