It was during the late hours of the morning that I was informed that a mother leopard and her younger daughter has been found. I was leading a safari since the early hours of the morning and there was not much happening, so I decided to make my way there straight away and spice up the morning for my safari guests. Seeing two leopards together in one place is a rarity and a special sight. What a special sighting it turned out to be in the end. On our arrival everyone was stunned to see one leopard up in a tree with another lying in the grass below the tree. The mother leopard was lying at the bottom and the young female was playing around up in the tree. I could see the young leopard kept looking down at her mother, looking like she needed something from her. Suddenly the leopard decided to stop playing around and make her way down the tree. The task seemed more challenging than anticipated and the young female leopard did not look so sure footed as a leopard normally would be. Keeping in mind that this leopard was estimated at eighteen months, so it was clear that her tree climbing skills needed more practise. It was funny to see how the leopard got herself in some awkward positions down the tree before she finally managed to get down. Once down from the tree, the young female went straight to her mother. Once the young leopard reached her mother, heart-warming moments unfolded right in front of us. The young leopard, about the same size of her mother, was clearly in need of affection. There was a lot of licking and grooming involved, showing so much tender love and care for one another. After a while the mother leopard made it clear that it was now enough, snarling and growling while showing off her teeth. The young leopard got the message and slowly moved away to lie down. What a privilege to see such an incredibly rare and affectionate moment out in the African wild.
