A shocked housewife found a coconut tree snake slithering on the counter while cleaning the kitchen.

Sudarat Norabute said she was washing the dishes when she noticed the serpent's yellow eyes near the drying rack in her home in Sakon Nakhon province, Thailand, on May 15.

She wasn't sure what it was at first until she bent down to have a look and saw the creature. Sudarat rushed to call the animal rescuers and helped her evacuate the snake from the property.

Footage shows the coconut snake hiding under the spice cabinet. A volunteer used a long stick to lure the animal out while Sudarat shrieked about 10ft-away near the door.

Sudarat said: ‘I thought it was only plastic from the grocery store but I was confused. Why does the bag have scales? It then moved and I realised those were its eyes. It was a snake and it was looking right into me. I ran out.'

After almost half an hour, the rescuers extracted the snake from the kitchen.

The coconut snake measured 4ft-long and was placed in a bag before the team took into the wild to be released.
