Nurses hold 'graduation' ceremony for mother and baby leaving two-month stint in ICU
This is the heartwarming moment a group of thoughtful nurses held a graduation ceremony for a mother and her baby who had spent two months in intensive care.
Anjela Delyn Javier underwent an emergency caesarean section to deliver her premature daughter at the Nueva Ecija Medical Centre in San Leonardo, the Philippines.
Due to the baby's weakened state, the infant had to stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for 78 days.
Footage shows a nurse in dark blue scrubs holding baby Jeila Sevynn Mangahas, who is wrapped in a pink blanket and adorned with a tiny pink sash and graduation cap, on November 5.
Another critical care nurse opened the door to reveal the infant to her delighted parents waiting outside.
Anjela can be seen taking photographs while her partner, visibly eager to hold their daughter, waits patiently for the moment he can finally carry her.
The mother said: 'I had a high-risk pregnancy and was confined three times due to bleeding. My doctor requested that I be admitted to the hospital due to a loss of amniotic fluid. When the situation did not improve, we proceeded with an emergency caesarean.
'My daughter was born at just 28 weeks and stayed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She fought off various infections and bacteria. She required multiple blood transfusions and was diagnosed with Respiratory Distress Syndrome and Stage 3 Retinopathy of Prematurity. However, by the grace of God, her health progressed, and her sight was saved.
'She is finally home. I felt a mix of emotions, both happy and nervous. As a first-time mother, I worried about how to care for a baby with such a low birth weight and a history of sleep apnoea. I didn't sleep at all that first night, just to make sure she was okay.'
