Risking lives, people cross under-construction bridge with work still incomplete in western India
People from 15 villages have been risking their lives to cross an under-construction bridge in western India's Gujarat.
The bridge was supposed to be fully constructed over the Macchundri river of Delwada village in Una, Gir Somnath district. People were seen crossing this under-construction bridge on July 7.
Visuals showed people of all ages on the under-construction bridge and climbing down the structure while risking their lives. With the help of ropes, men and women with their children were seen on the under-construction bridge as they climbed up and down the structure in a bid to commute after the road underneath was flooded with water due to rainfall. The path was completely inundated with water whose current also seemed pretty strong. This made commuting difficult on this road, an example of it being vehicles seen standing at the other end.
According to a report, the road gets flooded every year which would put an end to all the vehicular movement on this path. As a result, authorities decided to have a bridge constructed in the area which would be of help to the locals and reportedly, the construction of the same has been going on since last year. This has turned out to be a problem for the people from 15 villages who would have expected to use this bridge. Instead, they have now taken the tougher route and are travelling on the under-construction structure, posing a big risk to their lives. Not only adults but children, who need to go to school are also encountering difficulties.
The Delwada village is home to thousands of people who have to travel more than 10 kms for their children to get to school.
