Motorist narrowly escapes serious injuries as car suddenly explodes amidst China's heatwave
A vehicle suddenly exploded amidst sweltering heat, damaging the car and injuring the driver who was inside at the time in central China.
The aftermath video was filmed in the city of Zhengzhou in Henan Province on July 7.
Eyewitness, Mr Cao, recalled the terrifying moment when the parked vehicle blew up at the entrance of a residential area.
Cao said he heard a big bang and saw the car doors and windows were shattered, while the airbags deployed and the driver's hair and clothes were singed.
Speculation is rife that the car contained highly flammable items such as insecticides and air fresheners, which due to extreme internal temperatures led to the explosion.
Cao said it is likely that those flammable items caused the blast.
The Zhengzhou Meteorological Station issued a red heatwave warning at 07:10 am on July 7, predicting that daytime temperatures in the main urban areas of Zhengzhou would exceed 40 degrees Celsius.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
