Footage shows high floods submerging roads and entering homes as monsoon rains battered southern Thailand on July 20.

Houses in Ranong province were hit by flooding following days of torrential downpours. The water has receded in some areas, but left homes in disarray, covered with debris and mud.

Wirote Lewcharoenthrap of the Thai Meteorological Department wrote in a Wednesday weather advisory: 'During July 19 and 20, the rather strong southwest monsoon prevails over the Andaman Sea and southern Thailand's west coast. For this reason, the abundance of rain and heavy rain to very heavy rain will occur in some areas.'

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are approaching their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
