Severe floods swept through southern Thailand, leaving roads and thousands of homes submerged.

Torrential downpours triggered flash floods that surged into neighbourhoods in Nakhon Si Thammarat province.

Drone footage shows cars battling through the muddy deluge swamping roads on November 21.

Authorities said at least two people were killed, and more than 80,000 households and 200,000 people were affected.

Officials were surveying the full extent of damage to farms, public utilities and infrastructure.

Governor Somchai Leelanoi said he has ordered district chiefs to monitor the situation 24 hours a day and urged residents to follow weather alerts closely as water pumps were deployed to high-risk zones.

Heavy rains have been battering the region since November 20.

Residents moved their belongings to higher ground and evacuated to relief centres.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
