A kind teacher was praised by locals for rescuing 19 puppies dumped in a flooded forest and left to drown during a storm in Thailand.

Suputtra Linthong braved the heavy rain to rescue the animals when she received a call from her friend that they had been abandoned near her workplace at the Ban Non Por Daeng School in Nong Bua Lamphu on August 8.

The two trudged through the muddy terrain and found the 19 hapless puppies soaking wet in a puddle and shivering in the cold weather.

They carried the puppies to Suputtra's home in two crates and sheltered them as they looked for potential adopters.

Photos of the adorable litter rapidly spread online, and Supputra was soon flooded with messages from would-be pet owners wanting to take the puppies home. The Good Samaritan even offered to deliver the dogs to their forever homes for free.

She said: 'I will deliver them to the owners free of charge in Nong Bua Lamphu province and surrounding areas, just like I used to find homes for dogs, to ensure that the puppies are well taken care of.'

But before parting with the puppies, Supputra first took them to be checked at the Nong Bua Lamphu Pet Health Center, where they were found to be of sound health.

As of August 9, all 19 puppies have been adopted, local media reported.

Meanwhile, Supputra urged pet owners not to carelessly discard their animal companions, and to instead find a shelter or adopter to take care of them.

She said: 'All animals have souls, just like ours. If you don't love them, don't hurt or discard them.'

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are approaching their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
