A national park was closed when it was hit by flash floods during heavy rain in Thailand.

Footage shows torrential floods rushing over a bridge at the Khao Chamao Khao Wong National Park in Rayong on August 15.

Chanu Dejthanyanond, chief of the Khao Chamao Khao Wong National Park, announced on Tuesday the temporary closure of the Khao Chamao Waterfall and Klong Pla Kang Waterfall until further notice.

He said the closure was enforced to ensure the safety of both tourists and staff from flash floods and landslides.

Residents in low-lying areas have been urged to be vigilant of the surging waters.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
