Cape Town, 27 August 2023: Anti-crime group PAGAD (People Against Gangsterism and Drugs) marched through the streets of the gang and drug-ridden streets of Hanover Park on the notorious Cape Flats. They stopped at the homes of several drug merchants, who then agreed to surrender and cease their fighting and illegal activities.

Many innocent people have been killed in gang crossfire over the last several months as competing gangs tried to expand into one another’s territories. The area is also home to many drug merchants.

PAGAD became notorious in the late nineties after they lynched well known gang boss Rashaad Stage outside his Salt River home. The group were also implicated in the bombing of the Planet Hollywood restaurant at Cape Town’s Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in 1998.
