Endangered green sea turtle released from fishing boat in the Philippines
An endangered green sea turtle was released from a fishing boat after being rescued by locals in the Philippines.
The massive marine animal weighing 100kg was found tangled inside a lobsted cage, so residents helped to free it in Sorsogon province on August 20.
Footage shows the 104cm by 95cm turtle being lifted by three struggling men due to its heavy weight before it finally plunged into the water and swam away.
The sea creature was safely returned to a marine-protected area in the province without injuries with the authorities' guidance.
Green sea turtles are listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species due to habitat loss, pollution, overfishing, and climate change.
