STORYLINE:

The China International Import Expo (CIIE) offers win-win opportunities for exporters from around the world to explore the vast Chinese market, with particular importance to enterprises from the Global South, an Ethiopian expert has said.

Costantinos Berhutesfa, professor of public policy at the Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia, said that the CIIE presents broader trade opportunities for both China and other countries.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): COSTANTINOS BERHUTESFA, Professor of public policy at Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia
"It's both-way, but I think fundamentally, this expo would be very useful for frontier markets to be able to access the Chinese market. This is important because most of the frontier markets, especially in Africa and some in South Asia and Latin America, are not used to this kind of trading opportunities."

Costantinos said the equal opportunity presented by the CIIE offers companies from other countries to enter the vast Chinese market.

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): COSTANTINOS BERHUTESFA, Professor of public policy at Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia
"China likes to provide all nations with a kind of equal opportunity to be able to access the Chinese market. The vast market in China with over 1.4 billion consumers is an opportunity for the Global South to be able to communicate with China in terms of trade relations."

The sixth edition of the CIIE is scheduled for Nov. 5-10 in China's Shanghai.
