Mysterious green flames erupt from Chinese resident's gas stove
Mysterious green flames erupted from a resident's gas stove in southern China.
The video was filmed in the city of Leshan in Sichuan Province on November 11.
Upon investigation, the natural gas company explained that the unusual colouration was likely due to the oxidation of the stove's copper components. When copper reacts with flames, it can produce a green hue, a principle commonly exploited in the creation of fireworks. The green flame was a result of the copper flame colouration reaction.
The gas stove, typically coated with copper, might have had soup spilled on it which wasn't promptly cleaned. Over time, this led to oxidation, resulting in the striking green flames.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
