Two arrested after man suffers life-threatening injuries in horrifying Birmingham hit and run
West Midlands Police are investigating after a man in his 40's was hit and left with life-threatening injuries in a horrifying hit and run on a notorious ring road through Birmingham city centre.
The incident happened on Belgrave Middleway close to the city's Central Mosque on Saturday 13 January at around 6.30pm.
The man was hit at a pedestrian crossing on a 40mph average speed camera arterial road.
A jumper and hat were spotted on the road close to a pool of blood amongst evidence markers, as was a paper cup.
Two men aged 39 and 27 have been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
There have been several fatal collisions on this stretch including a cyclist who was crossing further up the road back in May 2023.
The 40mph road had average speed cameras installed after a major crash resulted in six deaths in 2017.
WEST MIDLANDS POLICE STATEMENT:
We are appealing for witnesses after a man has suffered life threatening injuries following a collision in Birmingham last night (13 Jan).
Officers were called to the junction of Belgrave Middleway and Highgate Road at around 6.30pm to a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
The pedestrian, a man in his 40s, was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries and remains in a serious but stable condition.
The vehicle involved fled the scene.
Shortly after, officers spotted a vehicle being driven dangerously.
We traced this to an address and arrested two men, aged 39 and 27 on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
The men remain in custody for questioning.
Det Sgt Julie Lyman, from our serious collision investigation unit, said: "We are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and recalls seeing a collision or was travelling on the road with a dash cam to contact us.
"A man has suffered traumatic injuries and we need to piece together what happened."
Anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone with dash cam footage has been urged to get in contact with police via Live Chat on their website, or call 101 quoting 3250 of 13/01/24.
