Officials of the customs department seized gold worth Rs 2.51 crore (USD 3,02,732.36) from the lavatory of an aircraft in southern India's Tamil Nadu.

This incident took place at Chennai International Airport on February 29.

Visuals showed one of the customs officials opening a flap inside the aeroplane's lavatory with the help of a screwdriver. He then goes on to use a torch and look inside from where he extracts the gold wrapped in black tape, attached to a wire. Interestingly, it also had a number lock attached to it as well. Later on, three rectangular bars of gold were found, which weighed around 4.5 kgs (9.921 lbs). The aircraft landed from Abu Dhabi when it was inspected by the customs officials.
