This is the dramatic moment a motorist clung for his life onto a speeding lorry that was dragging his motorcycle along a highway in India.

Footage shows the bike rider Abdul Majeed, 60, standing on the footboard of the lorry while the driver, Prithviraj, continued speeding along the road in Hyderabad on April 14.

Despite the motorcycle being crushed under his front tyre and sending sparks flying, Prithviraj showed no sign of halting. Concerned motorists drove in front of Prithviraj to finally stop his rampage.

Abdul lodged a complaint with authorities on April 15, and Prithviraj was detained on April 17.

The motorcycle rider had no injuries, but his two-wheeler was in ruins from being dragged across two kilometres.

Local media reported that on the night of the incident, Prithviraj had been driving at high speeds and rear-ended Abdul's bike. He then tried to flee the scene as shocked onlookers recorded his escape attempt.

Prithviraj was also reported to have struck another car at the Champapet T-junction.

Authorities said an investigation is ongoing.
