A bird brutally attacked a snake by pecking at its eyes.

Jannette Kotze was visiting Western Cape, South Africa, in November when she spotted a bokmakierie on the hunt.

Brutal footage captured the small yellow and green bird launch at an unfortunate egg eater and grab it in its beak.

During a 10 minute attack, the bokmakierie repeatedly pecked at the snake’s body and dragged its body through the savannah despite being significantly smaller than its prey.

Jannette said: “I have never seen anything like this before, it was extremely surprising. It started its attack by pecking at the snake’s eyes.

“These birds have a diet made up of most insects but sometimes amphibians and reptiles are also included.

“That day, snake was on the menu. The whole attack carried on for 10 minutes.”
