A soup kitchen at Tanah Datar Regency in West Sumatra that offers food to more than 2,000 evacuees at least twice a day also serves as a logistics center, providing clothes for those in need.

All supplies, such as food and clothing for the affected in West Sumatra will be transported to the kitchen before they are distributed to smaller logistics station across the region.

This central logistics center received a total of 810 kilograms of rice, 130 boxes of bottled drinking water and 11 big sacks of clothes on Tuesday, some of which were donated by residents in the region.

"Supply of gas is of vital importance for us managing logistics distribution. If we don't have gas, it will make things even more difficult for us. More than 2,400 evacuees need to be given accommodation. Not having enough gas will create problems," Yusrizal, head of Tanah Datar Regency Office, Ministry of Information and Communications said.

Road bridges blocked by landslides or washed away in heavy downpours pose another impediment to distribution of supplies, according to the officer.

In West Sumatra, a total of four regencies were hit by the cold lava and flash floods. Many buildings have suffered severe damages.

Cold lava, also known as 'lahar', is a mixture of volcanic material and pebbles that flow down a volcano's slopes in the rain.

As of Tuesday evening, Indonesia's National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure says the death toll has risen to 58 casualties in West Sumatra, while the number of those who've gone missing has increased to 35.
