This is the heart-stopping moment a cement truck nearly rolled onto a woman's motorcycle along a narrow street in Thailand.

Rattanarat Mongkolkul, 36, was riding to her restaurant when the cement mixer in front of her backed up to give way to another oncoming truck in Khon Kaen province on May 16.

CCTV footage shows the large vehicle reversing at high speed as Rattanarat scrambled to move her Vespa out of the way. She stumbled, scraping herself on the rough ground while honking the horn to call the truck driver's attention.

The shaken motorist survived the incident with bruises and abrasions after her motorcycle toppled onto her leg.

Rattanarat said the truck driver gave her his boss's number so she could request compensation. However, the other party allegedly denied responsibility two days later, insisting the truck did not hit her.

Frustrated Rattanarat said: 'Where is your responsibility? Was it my fault? Did I fall and hurt myself on purpose? I even drove myself to the doctor and paid for treatment myself.

'They claimed the truck didn't crash into me. However, my motorcycle crushed my leg when I was trying to escape. Just a few inches more and I would have been crushed under the truck.

'The driver said he couldn't hear my car horn. I tried to drive in the right lane so he would know I was behind him, and yet he claimed he couldn't see me. I was driving almost a metre behind him. What did I do wrong? He was driving carelessly, why can't he just accept it?'

Rattanarat filed a report with the Mueangkao Police Station and submitted the CCTV footage as evidence.

However, she claimed the officers wanted more evidence as the clip did not capture her fall.

She said: 'I wasn't familiar with the area, so I couldn't tell them where the accident happened exactly during the interrogation. The officer told me I was just filing a false report, despite the evidence I gave them. It's so unfair.'

She added that she was seeking a total of at least 11,800 THB (253 GBP), as compensation for hospital fees, motorcycle repairs, and missing a week of work because of the incident.

She said: 'I was waiting for the other party to offer compensation themselves, but I was forced to go to the police because they would not respond to my calls. The incident has traumatised me. It still gives me nightmares when I think about it.'

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
