Hero locals rescued a drowning boy from a river in India.

Footage shows a resident with his neighbours swimming in the Jhelum River in Kashmir to save the seven-year-old youngster.

He handed the child to the other residents, who quickly administered CPR and soon after regained consciousness. They rushed the boy to the Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital afterwards.

According to witnesses, the boy was playing with his sister on the riverbank when he slipped.

The rescuer said: ‘Without wasting any time I jumped into the waters with my older brother and another man. The boy was floating with his eyes wide open.'

Local media reported that the boy was transferred to the Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital (SMHS) in Srinagar for medical attention.
