Local villagers used warning lights to halt traffic after a highway bridge collapsed due to flash floods in northern China.

The video was filmed in Shangluo City in Shaanxi Province on July 19.

Local villagers grabbed warning lights and positioned themselves along the roadside to intercept passing vehicles, preventing them from driving into the collapsed bridge on the expressway.

The bridge collapse happened under the cover of night, significantly reducing visibility. The heavy rain further obscured drivers' views, making it difficult to detect the danger ahead. Recognising the imminent threat, the villagers spontaneously mobilised to avert further casualties and damage.

Ye Xiao, the village chief of Yanping Village, recounted how the villagers immediately organised a response upon hearing the thunderous crash of the collapse. They rushed to the highway, using warning lights and hand signals to stop the oncoming traffic.

Despite the harsh weather conditions, the villagers' prompt and courageous actions were instrumental in reducing the number of potential victims.
