A stranded local clung to the back of a delivery truck to avoid being swept away by a raging flood from a typhoon.

Footage shows the desperate resident hugging the rear door of the lorry to take refuge from the fast-flowing water in Manila, the Philippines on July 25.

He was caught in the middle of the road when the deluge gushed through but climbed the stranded vehicle where he stayed until the water was calmer.

Resident Ryan Cuartz who saw the man from the window of his home said: ‘He was rescued and safe.'

Typhoon Gaemi killed 22 in the Philippines after lashing through mainland Luzon for almost a week, intensifying monsoon rains. It headed to Taiwan killing three people and injuring more than 200 when it made landfall.
