A helicopter rescue team saved a 59-year-old Utah woman stranded on the coast of California.

The distressed woman, whose identity has not been disclosed by authorities, was dramatically rescued by a California Highway Patrol (CHP) aircraft on Sunday, September 30, from the wilds of the Big Sur coastline. She had been reported missing following a rock-hunting expedition.

The woman reportedly checked into the Ragged Point Inn the night before but did not return from her planned exploration of Willow Creek Beach.

Her disappearance prompted a multi-agency search involving the CHP's Coastal Division Air Operations, CHP Monterey, and the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.

Officials said her vehicle was spotted at a Highway 1 turnout north of Kirk Creek Campground. This led the helicopter crew to intensify their search over the rugged shoreline, where they soon located her unharmed on a secluded rocky beach south of the campground.

The helicopter landed on a narrow strip of sand about 200 yards from her location. A flight officer then approached and guided her back to safety.

CHP video footage captured the rescue, featuring the helicopter operator's voice as he coordinated the landing, stating, 'I'm going to go ahead and land right over here.'

The woman emerged uninjured from her ordeal and was quickly reunited with her vehicle, where her husband and Monterey County Sheriff's Office deputies were waiting.
