Typhoon Bualoi causes floods affecting thousands of homes in Thailand
Typhoon Bualoi swamped thousands of homes as it triggered floods in northeastern Thailand.
The storm brought heavy rain to Khon Kaen, leaving villagers trapped in their houses.
Soldiers from the 2nd Infantry Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment were dispatched to evacuate stranded locals today, as the water level rose to around a metre (3 feet).
Footage shows personnel battling through surging floods to deliver aid to residents. They also reinforced sandbag barriers as villagers braced for more floods.
Authorities said heavy rain and mountain runoff caaused the Choen canal to burst its banks, spilling over into nearby communities and farmland.
Bualoi struck Vietnam early Monday morning, with winds reaching 130 km per hour, leaving at least 19 people dead and 88 others injured.
Authorities confirmed that Bualoi triggered at least eight tornadoes across several provinces in Vietnam, including Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Thanh Hoa, Thai Binh, Quang Ninh, and Hanoi.
In Ninh Binh, the extreme weather left nine people dead and 18 injured. Eleven single-storey houses collapsed, 126 homes were damaged, and 53 utility poles were brought down.
Bualoi had previously caused at least 20 deaths in the Philippines and forced hundreds of thousands of families into evacuation centres.
The Thai Meteorological Department said Bualoi has been downgraded to an active low-pressure system over Laos. It was expected to cause heavy rainfall and flooding in northern regions while moving along the monsoon trough across the region.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said at least seven were killed in floods in Thailand.
