Typhoon Bualoi unleashed deadly floods, killing a fisherman as it destroyed homes and farmland in northeastern Thailand.

Overflowing canals and mountain runoff inundated communities in Khon Kaen province on Tuesday, in what residents called the worst flooding in decades.

A fisherman drowned after he was swept into a drain while retrieving his nets.

Rescuers used boats to save stranded residents, including a pensioner named Thongphun and his three dogs, while villagers scrambled to catch dozens of ducks swept away by the current.

Locals moved their valuables to higher ground as continuous rain caused river levels to rise.

Bualoi struck Vietnam early Monday morning, with winds reaching 130 km per hour, leaving at least 19 people dead and 88 others injured.

Authorities confirmed that Bualoi triggered at least eight tornadoes across several provinces in Vietnam, including Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Thanh Hoa, Thai Binh, Quang Ninh, and Hanoi.

In Ninh Binh, the extreme weather left nine people dead and 18 injured. Eleven single-storey houses collapsed, 126 homes were damaged, and 53 utility poles were brought down.

Bualoi had previously caused at least 20 deaths in the Philippines and forced hundreds of thousands of families into evacuation centres.

The Thai Meteorological Department said Bualoi has been downgraded to an active low-pressure system over Laos. It was expected to cause heavy rainfall and flooding in northern regions while moving along the monsoon trough across the region.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said at least seven were killed in floods in Thailand.
