A fireman climbed up a tall tree to rescue a stray cat stuck on top.

The team was called to Wat Ko Than Buddhist temple to help evacuate a feline that stranded was 20ft (6 metres) up a fruit tree trying to escape stray dogs on the banks of a stream in Trang province, Thailand, on October 13.

Footage shows volunteer Patcharapol Mueangrat tying a rope around his waist with the help of his colleagues to serve as his harness while clambering the branch.

Patcharapol mounted slowly while the other team members hoisted the rope attached to the rescuer's harness from the pulley.

Siam Ruamjai Poo In Foundation Chief Rescuer Yuttachai Mueangrat said: 'The female orange cat was making weak noises. They said it had been there for two days.'

Patcharapol pulled one of the branches, and it broke, so he avoided using them for support.

He climbed, hugging the branch to the top before grabbing the exhausted moggy.

The chief rescuer added: 'It was difficult because the water was only 6.6 ft (2 metres) away from the tree.

'That kind of mission was rare, but we previously rescued dogs, cats, and cows from wells that way.'
